CDR Arthur J. Schroeder, USN (Retired) (May 2014)

CDR Arthur J. Schroeder passed on Saturday, May 3 2014. Born March 8, 1942 in New York to Albert and Mabel (Porthoff) Schroeder and was raised in Westwood, NJ. He attended Westwood High School, Gettysburg College and Seton Hall University. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl A. Seppanen, a sister, Carol Scott, sons Michael John (Gabrielle) Schroeder and Jason Thomas (Rimbey) Schroeder, granddaughters Skylar, Makayla, Sarah (all of Escondido) and his pet Sadie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Lynn (Wilcox) Schroeder.

Twenty-four years a Naval Aviator, culminating in Command at Sea. Other tours included Naval Post Graduate School, earning a BS in Computer Science (Magna Cum Laude) and an MS in Computer Systems Management (with distinction). He also served with the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Washington, DC, and was the Commander, Joint Test Force in San Diego CA.

After retiring from the Navy, Art spent eight years at SYSCON Corporation, later retiring as Director of Business Development. Other activities included serving as Transportation Commissioner for the City of Escondido and President of the VC/VAW Foundation, coordinating reunions for Naval Aviators.

Upon full retirement, Art kept busy by RV traveling, trail jeeping, teaching, being active in Oregon and Arizona home associations where he lived for several years each, and volunteering as an Arizona Ranger. He later returned to California and settled in Wildomar.

A memorial service will take place on May 23, 2014 at Fort Rosecrans Columbarium at 2:00 pm. Contributions can be made to the ASPCA or any Disabled Veterans charity
