After receiving his NFO wings in November, 1976, Ensign Daugherty was assigned to the World Famous Hormel Hawgs of VAW-114, making two deployments in the USS CORAL SEA and USS KITTY HAWK, flying in the E-2B and E-2C. In 1980 he was assigned to RVAW-110 in San Diego as an instructor, and helped to develop the West Coast E-2C training syllabus.

A tour in 1983-1985 with the VAW-112 Golden Hawks and a deployment on the USS RANGER followed. His next assignment was to the Fleet Combat Direction Systems Support Activity (FCDSSA) where he participated in the development of the software programs used in the E-2B and E-2C. In 1987 he took orders to the VAW-115 Liberty Bells, homeported in Japan aboard USS MIDWAY. Following this memorable tour, he again reported in 1990 to FCDSSA and the E-2 software development group.

His final seagoing assignment was with the staff of Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group THREE, embarked on the USS CARL VINSON. While with the staff, CDR Daugherty flew with the Black Eagles of VAW-113 in the first deployment of the E-2C Group II aircraft. After this tour, he was assigned as XO of the Navy Center for Tactical Systems Interoperability (NCTSI).

After retiring in 1998, CDR Daugherty joined Veridian Engineering as a systems engineer. He currently is employed by Northrop Grumman as a communications systems engineer and program manager, supporting the company’s contract with SPAWAR Systems Center Pacific.
