CAPT Paul O’Connor, USN

Captain Paul O’Connor is a native of upstate New York and a 1981 graduate of Siena College. He received his commission in 1983 through Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida. Following initial Naval Flight Officer Training at VT-10, he was assigned to the E-2C Replacement Air Group (RAG), RVAW-120 in Norfolk, Virginia for Hawkeye Flight Training.

Subsequent to earning his wings as a Naval Flight Officer, he completed operational squadron tours in VAW-122 “Steeljaws” and VAW-124 “Bear Aces”. Shore duty assignments include instructor NFO at E-2C/C-2A Fleet Replacement Squadron, VAW-120 “Greyhawks”. Captain O’Connor has deployed onboard the USS MOUNT WHITNEY (LCC 20) and the aircraft carriers USS INDEPENDENCE (CV 62), USS FORRESTAL (CV 59), USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67), USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74), and USS NIMITZ (CVN 68). While deployed he participated in Operations DENY FLIGHT, DELIBERATE FORCE, SOUTHERN WATCH, and IRAQI FREEDOM. He served as Commanding Officer of VAW-112 “Golden Hawks”, participating in Operations NOBLE EAGLE and ENDURING FREEDOM.

Captain O’Connor has flown over 3000 hours in the E-2C Hawkeye. Decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Air Medal – Strike Flight (three awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other unit and campaign awards.

Captain O’Connor currently serves as Commander, Airborne Command and Control and Logistics Wing, based in Point Mugu, California.
